Going Green
"Being in Real Estate, I feel that I can make a difference and hopefully encourage my clients to help our planet earth"- I drive a hybrid car to help our air quality (please read below for details why)
- At the request of a client on a closed transaction, I will replace up to 20 standard light bulbs with fluorescent bulbs (please read below for details why)
- At the request of a client on a closed transaction, I will give you a tree to plant at your house
- Your old cell phones are classifies as hazardous waste, I will collect them for recycling and if any of them hold monetary value (most do not), I will donate the money to charity.
Green your car. The next time you're in the market for a new car, check out an eco option like a hybrid model -- whatever you do, don't get an SUV. In the meantime, take care of your current ride with regular tune-ups and properly inflated tires.
Driving a 13-mile-per-gallon SUV wastes more energy in one year than if you left your refrigerator door open for six years! Getting regular tune-ups, performing maintenance, and having clean air filters will help you burn less gas and therefore pollute the air less. And properly inflated tires could save around 2 billion gallons of gas each year.
Plant a tree. Adding green to your garden is aesthetically -- and earth -- pleasing.
Just one tree (native to your region) will help make cleaner air and save the environment from 5,000 pounds of hot carbon dioxide each year.
Compact fluorescent light bulbs: These energy-efficient bulbs cost less than $4 and are produced by major corporations like GE. If every household in America switched five regular lightbulbs for five fluorescent bulbs, it would be the equivalent of taking 1 million cars off the highways for a full year.
Cell Phones: The average lifespan for a cell phone is eighteen months. On average 130 million are retired annually in the US alone.Only 1% of those are currently recycled.Yet almost all cell phones contain enough lead to qualify as hazardous waste under federal regulations. And even lead-free phones are considered hazardous under California regulations because of the high amounts of copper, nickel, antimony and zinc that leach into landfill. So do something good for the environment and recycle your old phone.
